Dental Awareness Month
Does your pet have bad breath? If so it may be a sign of periodontal disease starting. Below are other signs that your pet may need a dental exam and/or dental cleaning to help reduce the risk of periodontal disease:
- Loose/Wiggly teeth or teeth that are discolored or covered in tartar/calculus.
- Your pet doesn’t allow you to touch the mouth area.
- Excessive drooling and/or dropping food from the mouth.
- Bleeding from the mouth.
- Not eating much or weight loss
Neglecting teeth can result in a number of problems for your pet. Teeth may need to removed (extracted) because of periodontal disease . Disease can also spread to other parts of the body.
BUT THE GOOD NEW IS…The risk of periodontal disease can be reduced, or even eliminated, by following these recommendations:
- First step in prevention or treatment is a routine physical examination, including dental examination.
- Practicing a regular dental care regimen at home, this may include brushing your pets teeth and/or utilizing specially formulated foods that assist with plaque removal.
